Prologue/Epilogue:
We did not talk for quite a long time. She thought that it was supposed to be my sweet revenge. It was her sister who explained that if ever true, I had a valid reason for doing so after she’s still kicking even when I’m already down. It wasn’t a revenge. Really!
Then, we paused and looked each other.
She: You’re so kind to me inspite of…
Me: Don’t continue. I’m not kind. I’m in love.

I got my first cellphone when I was in 3rd year high school. It was bulky and outdated. With these features, I never told that I had already a cellular phone.

I sent my first text message to the girl that I courted for two years. I introduced myself as Jacob Villahermosa, UP Diliman freshman who lives in the metro. ‘Jacob’, which came from my friend’s first name and probably from ‘Jakub’, the Liar. ‘Villahermosa’ came from my cousins’ surname.

She: Are you joking? Villahermosa? Sounds like a resort.
Me: That’s the name of our clan.

I knew she was in bait. ‘Does she entertain stranger-texters?’ I asked.

We exchanged text messages. I greet her on mornings before we attended classes. And every night just before we all sleep.

Me: Sorry if I seldom text you. Cellphones are prohibited in UP.

My excuse since I don’t want others to make fun out of my low-tech phone.

We exchanged descriptions. I waited for hers if she would introduce herself ‘herself’.

Me: I am not familiar with Malolos, Bulacan although I think I’d been there before. Are you near Barasoain Church?

She almost told their exact address. ‘I will be accompanied if ever.’ I told her.

I said that February 2 is my birthday, a day before my real one. Coincidentally, it was his brother’s. Intentionally, just to bring a longer conversation.

The day after, she asked my friend, Jacob, (in front of me) if he’s the guy texter. Of course, Jacob denied. As she finished, I told Jacob that the person she’s talking about was actually me. I warned him not to tell anyone.

She’s really interested to Jacob Villahermosa. I quitted sending her the first message. Our text conversation usually ends already midnight. She asked for an eyeball. I refused.

She: Well, soon we’ll meet when I’m already there in UP.

Days after, she talked about Jacob in the whole class reading my text messages and self-composed love quotes. ‘Jacoby’ is my codename. How did I know? She let me see it. She narrated Jacob’s thoughtfulness, sweetness and intelligence. She’s narrating me.

I wanted to smile although she might noticed. If I would walk out, then it’ ok since the class would think that I was jealous. So, I act that drama.

True, I was dramatic because of one question that plays on my mind. I’m Jonas Roque, after two years courting her, dumped. I’m Jacob Villahermosa, after few texts, interests her. But why? Stuffed toys, chocolates, and tutorial sessions, versus one-peso text messages. Unclear! Message not sent!

Me: I wait for two years when we can meet now.

I sent an SMS that we are to set an eyeball. Disaster! I think of having someone else to frontact for me. Although, I’m still the loser.

It was a dance practice that I did not attend. I sent her a SMS.

Me: I’m Jonas Roque.
